Acupuncture aids compression fracture recovery. Fujian Provincial Geriatric Hospital (Fuzhou, China) research demonstrates that acupuncture improves recovery following percutaneous vertebroplasty for osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. Percutaneous vertebroplasty is a type of surgery that involves injecting a medical grade acrylic cement into a fractured vertebra to promote stabilization. The study compared two groups, one received percutaneous vertebroplasty monotherapy and the other received percutaneous vertebroplasty plus acupuncture.

Acupuncture Alleviates Depression Quantified
Acupuncture combined with herbal medicine is effective for the alleviation of depression. Researchers from Shaoxing Seventh People’s Hospital conclude that a modified version of the herbal formula plus acupuncture is effective for the treatment of depression. [1] Based on the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, serum cytokine, and neurotransmitter levels, the total effective rate was 100% for patients receiving both acupuncture and herbal medicine. Patients receiving only acupuncture had an 85% total effective rate and patients receiving only herbal medicine had an 87.5% total effective rate.

Too much vitamin D may harm bones, not help
A study shows that, for many people, less is more when it comes to vitamin D.
There’s no question that vitamin D can help build strong bones. But there may be a sweet spot when it comes to how much.
NEW PAPER EXPOSES SCIENCE BEHIND INTERMITTENT FASTING
With the new year come new resolutions that oftentimes involve losing weight. Perhaps intermittent fasting is on the 2020 agenda.
STRESS – THE MIND-BODY CONNECTION PART 2
Welcome back to Part 2 of “Stress – The Mind-Body Connection”. In Part 1, we discovered the science and psychology behind the mind-body disconnect, how hormones affect our perception of the world, how stress produces visible changes in the brain as well as enhanced emotionality, and much more. If you have not read part one, check it out here.
STEM CELL FAQs
We noticed you introduced a new formula called StemCell. What is it exactly?
NEW EVIDENCE SUGGESTS STRESS IS EVEN WORSE THAN WE THOUGHT
The chemical cascade triggered by stress causes radical changes to multiple brain functions, sparking the immediate decisions necessary to survive threats. It happens in milliseconds. How is this feat of near-instant brain connectivity possible? A recent study published in the journal Neuron pinpointed a likely conductor: the neurotransmitter noradrenaline.
STRESS – THE MIND-BODY CONNECTION PART 1
Dualism states that the mind and body are separate and this theory is accepted by many despite much evidence showing an observable bidirectional relationship between the mind and body. For example, the gut microbiome sends signals to the brain, and vice versa. The heart sends signals to the brain and the adrenals are also known to send signals to the brain by way of hormones that can alter our perception of the world. Neuroplasticity has shown us how our environment alters physical make-up. Modern scientists now have very sophisticated tools that can monitor brainwaves, microbes and other factors that change the mind. Stress is clearly a full-body response, and the idea that the mind and body are separate seems an outdated viewpoint.
HAVE YOUR SUGAR AND EAT IT, TOO
Our sweet tooth is more demanding than ever. As a result, food companies add a lot of refined sugar to our foods to make them more palatable. Unless you are eating food in its natural state, odds are you are consuming some kind of added sugar, and likely more than you think. The average American eats about 150 pounds of added sugar each year. Just flip a food product over and look at the label. Chances are you’ll see some variation of processed sugar, such as high fructose corn syrup.
DETOXING THE BRAIN: SLEEP AND GLYMPHATICS
According to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), there are over 85,000 synthetic chemicals in circulation today, which is hard on the immune system and elimination pathways. The first step to properly detoxify the brain is to do everything in our power to reduce and eliminate toxins from our lifestyle, such as avoiding synthetic chemicals whenever possible.
NEW STUDY REVEALS HOW MEMORIES ARE FORMED WHEN WE SLEEP
A paper published in the Science Journal on October 18, 2019 has altered what we previously thought about delta waves and memory formation. For decades, we have thought that the brain rests during deep stage 3 of NREM sleep. However, scientists at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Biology (CNRS/Collège de France/INSERM) recently discovered something new.

Maintaining good Digestive System
Did you know that your intestinal lining alone has a surface area of about 400m2? The health of your digestive system is essential to ensure proper digestion and absorption of nutrients, as well as to support the function of other body systems, such as the immune system. The health of the gastrointestinal system, particularly the gut microbiota, even impacts mental health through its connection with the central nervous system, often referred to as the gut-brain axis.
How to maintain Women’s Health
Every year in May we celebrate Women’s Health Month, which helps raise awareness about the unique health needs of women. Over the course of a woman’s life, nutritional needs change. During pregnancy, for example, a woman may require additional B vitamins and iron. However, after menopause, women typically require less iron and more calcium and vitamin D.
How to maintain Men’s Health
Dear valued patients,
Pediatric Health
A balanced, healthy diet and lifestyle can help your child to grow and thrive. While most nutrients should be obtained from whole, nutrient-dense foods, dietary supplements may be used when needs can’t be met through the diet or in cases of nutrient deficiencies. Below are some of the top-recommended supplements for children. In addition to these, consider giving your child a multivitamin and mineral supplement providing a broad-spectrum of nutrients to support general health. Supplements also come in a variety of forms, some of which children typically prefer, including powder, chewable tablets, gummies, or liquid.
How to Increase your Immune System so You don’t get Sick
The immune system is your body’s primary mechanism of defense, responsible for protecting you from potentially harmful invaders. It is made up of various cells, tissues, and substances including the skin barrier, red and white blood cells, microbiota, antibodies, and cytokines (cell signaling molecules). The immune system may be generally broken down into the innate immune response, your first line of defense, and the adaptive immune response, which is highly specific against particular intruders. Immune system dysfunction may result in allergies, infections, tumors, and autoimmunity. An integrative treatment plan including a healthy lifestyle, a nutritious diet such as the Mediterranean diet, adequate sleep, regular exercise, and dietary supplements may help you to support immune health and prevent disease.
December is Energy and Mitochondria Month
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 15% of women and 10% of men experience fatigue. Fatigue is characterized by a lack of mental or physical energy, low initiative, and increased feelings of tiredness. Mitochondria, organelles found in the body’s cells, are known as the body’s “powerhouses” since they play an important role in energy production. Supporting your body’s mitochondria and the process of energy production may involve consuming a balanced diet, engaging in regular physical activity, optimizing sleep, managing stress, and taking certain dietary supplements.
